Activities and Attractions in Te Awamutu

Te Awamutu is also known as Rose Town and is famous as the birthplace of Kiwi musicians Tim and Neil Fin of Split Enz and Crowded House fame. The town lies in the heart of Waikato's farming district, close to sporting facilities, golf courses and a rugby sports centre. Other day trips to most parts of the Waikato include Waitomo Caves, Raglan, Kawhia and Yardley bush walk, Lake Ngaroto, Mt Pirongia, Mt Kakepuku. Fishing and hunting are also available in the vicinity.. Just a 50 minute trip to Matamata to the popular Hobbiton Movie Set.

Te Awamutu's Rose Garden and Memorial Park Gardens

The gardens are particularly attractive with approximately 2000 bushes. The two gardens are linked by the Pioneer Walk. Memorial Park the perfect spot for a picnic with the family and plenty of space for the kids to burn some energy in the play ground or feed the ducks.

Te Awamutu Museum

The Te Awamutu Museum displays the Maori and European history of the area. A highlight is the ancient Maori artifact Uneuku.

Lake Ngaroto

Perfect for a family picnic, and non motorised lake activities. Fancy a walk its a 90 minute loop walk - dogs okay as long as they are on a lead.

Yarndley's Bush

Stop along Ngaroto Road and take the easy 30 minute bush walk through Yarndleys Bush - 15 hectares of Kaihikatea Bush.

Mount Pirongia Forest Park

A bush-clad mountain offering a mix of walks from 5 minutes to 7 hours, with a hut for trampers near the summit. Mount Pirongia Horse Treks offer horse rides on the mountain slopes.

Wharepapa rock climbing field

Over 55 rock clumps catering for all levels, 22km south-east of Te Awamutu.

Sanctuary Mountain

Located just 25 minutes drive away its a must visit. Step through the pest-proof gate into another world. Maungaraurari is a mainland ecological island, thanks to the efforts of a dedicated community and the presence of a 47km pest-proof fence many of New Zealand's rarest and most endangered flora and fauna co-exist in a spectacular environment.

Raglan Beach

Fancy a day at the beach, just a 50 minute scenic drive to the west coast is Raglan Beach a lovely village to visit with some great shops & cafes' and scentic walks and of course Raglan Beach a popular spot for the keen surfer and beach goers.

Golf

For the avid golfer there are numberous golf clubs in close proximity, base yourself here and make day trips to the surrounding clubs - Te Awamutu Golf Club just 4-5 minutes drive. Waitomo Golf club just 25 minutes away. Pirongia course just 10 minutes drive. Cambridge 15 minutes. Narrows Golf Club 20 mins.
